2004 Recipient of The Robert V.A. Jones Canadian Corporate Counsel Award

Anna Fung, Q.C., of Vancouver is the 2004 recipient of the CCCA’s prestigious Robert V.A. Jones Canadian Corporate Counsel Award, presented in a ceremony on August 17, at the CCCA’s 16th Annual Meeting in Winnipeg.

Ms. Fung has worked tirelessly in a volunteer capacity with a number of organizations dedicated to improving not only the development of corporate counsel, but of the practice of law as a whole. She served as a director of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association from 1995-2000, including as CCCA President in 1999-2000 and on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Bar Association from 1997-2000. In addition, she currently serves as a director and past president of the People’s Law School, an organization she has been involved with for 14 years, as well as a director of the Continuing Legal Education Society of B.C., a position she has held since 1997. Ms. Fung also serves as second vice-president-elect of the Law Society of B.C., a position that will lead to her assuming the role of President in 2007.

After being called to the Bar in 1986, having served as a law clerk in the B.C. Court of Appeal, she began her career with Davis & Company, where she articled and later gained experience in corporate and commercial law, as well as advising professional associations on Charter and compliance issues and First Nations on land and resource development issues and Aboriginal claims. She then worked with McCarthy Tétrault in Vancouver, where she specialized in corporate acquisitions, reorganizations and takeovers before moving on in 1993 to her current position as Senior Counsel at Terasen Inc.

Ms. Fung received her undergraduate degree (B.A. with a double major in English and French) from the University of British Columbia in 1981 and her LL.B. from UBC in 1984.

Anna also applied her considerable leadership skills to the advancement of the profession by serving as Co-Chair of CCCA’s 17th Annual Meeting Conference in Vancouver, August 14-16, 2005 – Corporate Counsel Leadership: Building Winning Teams and Effective Legal Strategies.

The Robert V.A. Jones Award recognizes an exceptional contribution to the development or promotion of the Canadian corporate counsel Bar or community. The award, named after Robert Jones, who served as the founding Executive Director of the CCCA for 11 years, is presented at the CCCA Annual Meeting in August of each year.
