Our challenges and opportunities transcend borders. It is time that our conversations did too
.

With these statements as our guiding principle, CCCA hosted corporate counsel from around the world in beautiful Vancouver on January 25 – 27, 2009 at our inaugural Corporate Counsel World Summit.  This Summit was designed as an intense working meeting focused on international legal and business challenges that affect corporate counsel regardless of where they practice.  Throughout this groundbreaking event, a spirit of camaraderie and collegiality prevailed as corporate counsel from twelve countries came together to discuss the global challenges facing our profession during these difficult economic times.

Daniel Desjardins, Senior Vice President & General Counsel, Bombardier Inc. and Leslie O’Donoghue, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Agrium Inc. co-chaired the Summit.

It was a sold-out event attracting more than 200 in-house counsel from Canada and around the world – including representatives from corporate counsel associations in Australia, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Mexico, in addition to speakers from New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the U.S.

Our expert faculty included general counsel from major Canadian businesses and international corporations, as well as leading lawyers from the top law firms in the country.  Given the current economic climate, we are especially grateful for the contributions of our international speakers, representing some of the most innovative and successful companies in the world, including Microsoft, BAL Group, Brait S.A., LG Electronics MobileComm USA, China Resources Microelectronics Ltd., Honeywell, Sea-Tac International Airport, Telstra Corporation , Telgian Corporation, Vodafone New Zealand, KLA-Tencor and TOTAL.

Our keynote speakers provided Summit attendees with their unique insight and perspectives on the Canadian legal system, corporate governance and sustainability, the current status of in-house counsel and the legal profession in France and the current global economic crisis.  Summit attendees also heard from a stellar line up of keynote speakers which included:

Hon. Wally Oppal

Prof. Mervyn E. King SC
