Leading Corporate Counsel: The Critical Path to Excellence
Toronto, ON
April 22nd - 24th, 2007
Thank you for joining us for the CCCA National Spring Conference in the heart of downtown Toronto. This year’s program was packed with valuable and practical information on the most pressing legal and business management issues facing corporate counsel.
Plus, for our many members who are new in-house counsel or who are new legal department managers, CCCA developed two updated and expanded pre-conference workshops to address your new challenges and help you be as effective as possible in your new role. Thank you for attending our Spring Training Camp, April 22, 2007 in Toronto, ON.
Conference Co-Chairs:
Kevin Derbyshire
VP General Counsel & Business Affairs, Virgin Mobile
The pace of change continues to rocket in today’s corporate world. The explosive growth and adoption of digital technologies has only steepened the trajectory. The demand on corporate counsel to deploy effective corporate governance regimes, and provide prompt, practical legal advice, in such a dynamic environment continues to heighten. Colossal corporate failures like Enron and WorldCom only underscore the frailty of corporate structures, and intensify the focus on corporate accountability and the role played by each corporate stakeholder in its advancement. Implementing “best practices” can no longer be seen only as a corporate goal, but as a fundamental corporate necessity. This conference will lead corporate counsel to that critical path to excellence.

I am delighted to be co-chairing the 2007 CCCA Spring conference, the theme of which this year is “Leading Corporate Counsel: the Critical Path to Excellence”. The conference sessions will present an excellent opportunity to review the latest important legal developments in these times of rapidly evolving corporate change. It is the responsibility of all corporate counsel to understand and comply with all of the laws and regulations that impact their corporations, and the corporations’ board of directors, employees and shareowners.
The conference will cover a broad range of topics including privacy, pensions and benefits, crisis management, consumer contracts, competition law, and the latest developments in HR, executive compensation, directors and officer’s liability, and securities disclosure and compliance. Those of you attending the conference will enjoy a wonderful opportunity to network and reconnect with in-house counsel practicing in several industries from across Canada. I hope that you will join us in Toronto for our Gala opening night dinner and two days of legal review leading you to the critical path of legal excellence.
