We are very pleased to have been asked to serve as the conference co-chairs for the CCCA 2008 National Spring Meeting. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the founding of CCCA and we have every expectation that the Spring Meeting will meet – and exceed – the high standards set by previous conferences.

Increasingly, corporate counsel are expected to master a variety of disciplines and play multiple roles within their organizations: legal advisor, risk manager, business strategist and corporate leader. In recognition of the evolving role of in-house counsel, our conference theme this year is “Corporate Counsel, Corporate Leaders: Strategies for Risk Management and Business Planning.”

Developed with extensive input from corporate counsel across Canada, this conference is designed to help you identify the challenges and opportunities ahead and address them effectively, whether they involve substantive law, risk management, strategic business planning or law department leadership. In addition to workshops on privilege, intellectual property, restructuring, parents and subsidiaries, outsourcing, knowledge management and law department performance, we are pleased to provide an entire stream of programming on litigation risk management – identified as the number one risk management concern by CCCA members.

In addition to providing the very best workshops, seminars and speakers to assist corporate counsel, the National Spring Conference also offers many opportunities to meet and network with your fellow corporate lawyers from Canada and around the world. These include the Opening Cocktail & R.V.A. Jones Award Reception, Monday evening reception and networking dinners hosted by local law firms – all generously provided by our wonderful partners and sponsors.

We hope you will join us in Toronto for the CCCA 2008 National Spring Conference and discover the strategies for risk management and business planning that will help you in your transformation from corporate counsel to corporate leader!
